Friends of Bonobos supports the sanctuary Lola ya Bonobo, located in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. We are the world’s only bonobo sanctuary, home to 62 orphans whose parents were killed by the bushmeat trade. Besides the 20,000 visitors, our education officers also reach 10,000 school children in Kinshasa and the surrounding areas. This year in June, we also conducted the world’s first bonobo release, where 8 orphans were returned to the wild.
