We are the world’s only bonobo sanctuary, home to 62 orphans whose parents were killed by the bushmeat trade. Besides the 20,000 visitors, our education officers also reach 10,000 school children in Kinshasa and the surrounding areas. This year in June, we also conducted the world’s first bonobo release, where 8 orphans were returned to the wild.

The organization was built to avoid the pitfalls of bureaucracy and crippling procedures of the public sector, to secure efficient conservation management in parks and reserves throughout the world.

Out of this passion, and her combined background in veterinary nursing and zoology, CERCOPAN (Centre for Education, Research and Conservation of Primates and Nature) was born, which always had education and primate conservation as its primary purpose. Zena’s vision was always to form a international centre where young people of Nigeria could learn from each other, in partnership with the international community, and appreciate different way of thinking about their environment. In Nigeria, there wasn’t a lot of time left - but there was a love of life and welcome from the Nigerian people which made it all seem possible… CERCOPAN is now one of the leading environmental non-profit, non-government organizations working for conservation in Cross River State, Nigeria, with excellent relationships with government at both state and federal levels, and with a support organisation in the UK (registered charity 1116955). Our primary areas of work are primate rehabilitation, environmental education, community rainforest conservation, and research. CERCOPAN has two sites, our administrative and primate rehabilitation headquarters in Calabar, and our international research and education centre at Rhoko, Iko Esai (our community partners). Partners include the Cross River State Forestry Commission, Ministry of Environment, the Cross River National Park and the University of Calabar. The programmes of CERCOPAN focus on primate rehabilitation and conservation, environmental education, biodiversity and primate research and forest conservation which benefits local communities. As a cross cutting theme, capacity building of local staff and Nigerian young people is vital, and to this end we have developed a partnership with the University of Calabar to establish an international, top class Rain Forest Conservation Institute. We have already developed a ‘living classroom’ concept to complement this at our forest site. Here, at Rhoko, we have established an international research and education centre to help us work towards our overall goal of working for primate conservation and the preservation of biodiversity, as well as educate young people about the rainforest through first hand practical experience of this amazing environment located on their doorstep. Located approximately 90 km north of Calabar, this centre was established as a result of a long term agreement with Iko Esai community, in their community forest close to Rhoko River, from where it gets its name.

Being virtual means negligible administration costs for worldwide impact. We believe in efficiency, honesty and transparency. AVIF doesn’t charge fees.

Onsite volunteers are fully immersed into rural communities, repaying their communitiy’s hospitality by advocating sustainable development NOT handouts. They help us share a range of simple but effective concepts such as solar cooking & power, disease prevention, empowerment to women, global opportunity and internet capabilities.

Online volunteers can offer any skills they may have to help a project from the comfort of their desk, using the NABUUR “virtual village” system. No costs, no footprint. NABUUR is an entirely online system allowing anyone, anywhere to simply log on to contribute to the project.

We have finalised the new set of upgrades for Wallapa. However, this does not mean the end of work. We are looking to lift the Quality Of Service for Wallapa as we prepare to move over to new servers which will be much more faster than the current ones. The handover should be fulfilled by the end of the month.

As of this morning, Kahenya with the assistance of our Legal Team initiated a “spinoff” of Wallapa from being a ViRN Instruments Company to being an Independent Company. This move allows the company to grow independently of other ViRN Instruments assets and will allow for independent investors to come in.

Over the next 90 days, we will be creating a full new Board of Directors and unveiling a new corporate strategy. Until this transaction is finalised, Kahenya still remains as the overall CEO until otherwise stated. We will also be announcing the new location of our offices when we finalise that.

We will be launching our new White-Label Service in the next of days. What the white-label service does is offer a platform for a specific set of facilties contained in a chain business. For instance if a specific chain of hotels wants to have a map that shows all their facilties Africa wide, that is dedicate to them, we can now deliver that kind of service to them including full branding, logos and a unified booking system that intergrates with the current Wallapa Platform or that can remain separate. It also means that any Wallapa users registered on the original Wallapa site will be able to login to any white label service site and have their details carried forward, making it easier for them to make bookings.

Watch out for the White Label Service about to launch real soon.

Thanks.

Just a quick heads up to all parties concerned. We have just rejected two acquisition offers for the Wallapa - Simple Travel Platform.

Offer number one was from an American Company which has chosen to remain anonymous. They had put in a good qualifying bid, but we are not up for an outright take over.

Offer number two was from a local Kenyan Company which again has chosen to remain anonymous. We had to reject the offer again as it was not up to par.

The record straight.

We are not keen on being acquired, but is keen on partnerships with companies that can deliver within our Business Model. Our lawyers (Thuita Kiiru and Co. Advocates, and Njoroge Regeru and Company) are evaluating all offers equally and we will contact those we feel are withing out targets for 2009-2010.
